A woman in tech, that’s rare and super cool! How did you get into it?
I was always very curious to learn how things work and that extended to software and digital products, so that is why I took the step to start studying Information Systems. It was not easy, we were only 4 girls in total and I struggled to keep up with some of the students that were coding since they were very young. However, I had a lot of people support and mentor me along the way which really helped me realise that I wanted to go into Product Management. I really want to give that support back to anyone aspiring to be in tech, no matter what you want to be, engineer, architect, business analyst, etc. That was also one of the reasons why I chose to join Mode as I feel that the company really looks for exceptional talent and helps them achieve their goals.
When it comes to developing products, my number #1 priority is…
My number one priority as a product manager is to create the perfect balance between the user needs and technological innovation. What I mean by that is that understanding users’ needs and problems is a must, but companies can utilise existing and new technologies to help solve that problem – outside of what the user might think how you should solve the problem.
What’s in store for the Mode app next year?
The Mode app will include a range of features that will extend our current investment capabilities. So it will become an everyday app that you use often to make payments and get rewarded for it. We are creating a product suite for our business clients too – so I really look forward to working with them and creating a great product for their needs.
What does a day at work with Rebecca look like?
The fun thing about being a Product Manager is that every day is different and I get to work with customers as well as a lot of different teams within the company. The only constant is the daily stand-up, where the Product and Engineering team get together to set goals for the day. During the day, I complete my core activities, like planning roadmaps, writing specs. On top of that, I interact with the design team to plan and review wireframes, discuss product marketing with the Marketing team and plan process flow with Operations. One of my favourite tasks is working with customer-facing teams such as Marketing and Sales to get input for the Product Roadmap.
My favourite Mode feature is:
Definitely the BTC interest every Friday – but on top of that the referrals. It makes it so much easier to introduce people to Bitcoin and show them how easy it can be to buy Bitcoin and watch it grow with our Bitcoin Jar!
A fun fact about myself!
While most of my colleagues think I am super organised and love managing projects – I personally am actually super unorganised and spontaneous! One of my last holidays was just going to the airport and taking the next flight available, which resulted in an amazing adventure in the beautiful country of Oman.
